That Thursday afternoon, on a super hot day two summers ago, was loaded with sweet tasting yogurt and a surprising job opportunity. I was in line waiting patiently for my “fro-yo” when I overheard a conversation that this businessman in a suit was having on his cell phone. I don’t care if I was eavesdropping—I was desperate. Plus, this businessman was quasi-yelling about this open position at his company.
It didn’t seem real because he was inquiring about a vacancy for the exact field that I was in desperate need of being in. My job search had become stagnant—so I took this as a sign. I turned to the man, asked him about the position, consumed cups of yogurt together, and exchanged contact information. About a month later, we’re both going to Pink Berry again, but this time, as coworkers. Don’t be afraid to start conversations and form relationships at any place or any time. You never know what will happen when you put yourself out there.
